overheard snippet

"i haven't had this much fun since high school! tee-hee-hee!"

actual quote overheard at the uw yesterday.

WHAT? where do i begin? who really says that? first off, i can't even begin thinking about linking anything fun with high school. secondly, this girl seemed to be insinuating that college was less fun than high school, and that whatever she was doing at that particular moment was finally just as fun. there are many times when i'm at work or making mortgage payments when i think to myself, "wouldn't it be great to go back to that time when we were in college, when we were so dang naiive and unconcerned with life outside our immensely small santa cruz bubble? man, those were good times."*

i have never ever thought, "wouldn't it be great to be back in high school, when everyone was petty and i never fit in and i was completely uncomfortable in my tall nerdy self? man, that'd be great."

* footnote: yes, i know that college wasn't all that. i do remember the crappy times when we were completely broke and eating corn and potatoes. and i do remember the vicious angry roomate, the confusion, the depression, the fighting, the smell, the homework, the stealing of food, the mess, and the often overpowering feeling of being small and lonely.
