Tsunami deux
As the death toll mounted after my last post I started thinking about how crass it is of me to judge the governments of these nations that have been affected by the Tsunami. The fact that most of these nations don't even have agencies tasked with monitoring for these types of disasters is a testament to how poor much of the rest of the world truly is. It is easier to be arrogant that to be compassionate.
I am glad that the US has continued to up it's donations as the death toll of this disaster has risen. A lot of corporations including the one for which I am employed have already, or are moving towards collecting donations and matching funds to donate for relief assistance. I am sure when all is said and done it still won't be enough but it makes me feel a little better to know that things are being done to help these nations and build goodwill.
I am sure there are a lot of scam artists already working to shave a bit off of all the generosity the world is feeling for the disaster area. Let's hope people are donating money to groups that can direct their funds and help the most people.
