mt st helens...

this is all really exciting for geology nerds like me. although it is a bit depressing to remind myself that with my edumacation i could have been doing this or this; instead i am staring mindlessly into a computer (or more likely staringly longingly out the window). it is however good to know that my chances of being blown to pieces by scorching hot poisonous gasses or pyroclastic debris (or even liquid hot "magma" for that matter) are significantly less while sitting here at my desk.

i guess they are now saying that it's not going to blow, that the tremors were not related to the liquid hot "magma" moving around below the surface. this is quite unfortunate. it would have been a perfect little mini-eruption that would please geology dorks but not cause all the death and destruction that is so often found with volcanic eruptions. oh well. guess we'll have to wait for rainier (goobye puyallup!), or maybe any of these other ones...

in the meantime, here's a pretty cool mt st helens webcam, and here's one for rainier (although it's not always pointed directly at the mountain).
