The Raven King Lives!

I finally finished reading Jonathon Strange and Mr. Norrell. It took me a really long time to read this book and I put it down several times to read other things. Despite that however I think it was a pretrty good read and I look forward to the next in the series. Jonathon Strange and Mr. Norrell is the story of two magicians trials and tribulations while trying to revive magic in England, defeat Napolean, and their ultimate struggle for magical supremacy. It is a little like Harry Potter for grown up with a lot of historically based background thrown in. It is quite a dry read even in the most exciting points. I guess in that way the entire book is very english. It is also intelligent and compelling enough to keep you plowing through all 780 pages of it. Unfortunately Mandy is in the middle of it right now so I can't talk about spoilers.

Harry Potter 6 is coming out soon so here are my predictions for Harry Potter 6 and 7:

  • Ron and Hermione finally hook up
  • Hot hook up with Harry and Ginny, but it doesn't work out
  • Dumbledore dies to save Harry
  • Harry saves Snapes life somehow
  • Harry ultimately confronts Voldemort is a big showdown
  • Neville actually kills Voldemort as is hinted in the part about the prophecy in HP5
  • Harry becomes a teacher at Hogwarts
Yeah I know Harry Potter is immature, butI don't care. I just can't believe all of the Harry Potter crap on the net. It is amazing in a mostly sad and sick way.

Harry Potter is quite compelling as I understand. A girlfriend of mine has a thing for Snape. He is on her desktop, watches the movie clip of him over and over and publishes her own smut stories about him on the internet. The infatuation is as serious as a heart attack.

Her husband finds her condition only mildly amusing. I, however, find it hilarious.

I suspect that time spent writing smut about a fictional character is time that might have been better spent figuring out how to fullfil your apparently unsatified sexual appetite, but thats just me. Maybe it is just a safe healthy release.

I thing the Harry Potter books are great for when I need a diversion from more "serious" reading. Just don't start analyzing the world of the books because it will drive you spouse nuts. It does mine. For example she doesn't seem to care about why it is the characters portraits can talk and move from portrait to portrait, but people in pictures can't.
