american loser

A couple days ago we watched American Movie, a story of a loser "filmmaker" attempting to make the quintessential american movie, but ends up making a 3-minute horror movie instead. It came highly recommended from some folks at work and I was expecting it to be hilarious. Instead it was kinda sad. The main character is a total loser jerk. I have very little tolerance for people who annoy me, and he was the worst. It was all I could do to sit through the entire movie. The only think keeping me going was his ex-druggie-turned-compulsive-gambler friend (he has a gambling problem but only with scratch lotto tickets), who was really funny.

And the biggest question at the end of the movie: was it real? It's filmed as a documentary, but I was sure it was a "mockumentary," like
Waiting for Guffman, or Spinal Tap. But then Bodie had to ask if was real or not. Is it? The credits roll as if it really is a documentary. I jsut can't believe that there is someone like that out there. Even worse, that this person thinks that he is interesting enough to make a documentary about his "films"!

Please tell me it's not real. Please!

And oh yeah, it's friday. Instead of puppies, today we have...

kittens!

Adam and I have had many discussions concerning the validity of this "film". We don't think that it is real. He is a real person but we don't think that he really acts like that. A total idiot could not barge into the editing room at a university and just start hacking away on equipment. When Adam was a registered film student, he had to go through so much just to schedule time to edit. What a success though, because here we are talking about it! Mission accomplished Mark Borchardt . Mission accomplished!
